Bruno Akani

Mozambican Singer, Composer and Social Activist

Bruno Akani, born Bruno Emanuel da Silva Costa, (December 23, 1984, Maputo, Mozambique), is a Mozambican born singer, composer, and social activist, whose uniquely creative melodic interpretation of modern soft rock is gaining significant popularity in Mozambique. He was invited to be the lead singer of one of the biggest rock bands in Mozambique, the Rockfellers, and is collaborating with exceptional international talents such as Jimmy Dludlu, DJ Faya, Regina Dos Santos, Jazz-P, Ras Haitrm, amongst others.

Having developed a passion for playing guitar as a teenager, Akani joined a Church band in

Maputo, Mozambique, where he refined his writing and music skills over fifteen (15) years.

Concurrently, Akani explored different genres and performed to packed audiences in local

clubs and local music festivals.

In 2019 he decided to focus on his passion and become a professional musician. A year later,

in one of the most atypical years due to Covid-19, Akani released his first single “Standing

Still”, and thereafter few his second song “Breathe Again”. Both songs touch on the pressing

social issues the world was facing at the time.

In November 2020, Akani signed a contract with Bhavani Entertainment, to record the rest

of his album, and on the following year Akani was invited to attend the 71st Session of the

WHO Regional Committee for Africa to share about his initiative, that was to donate the

funds of his author’s right of the song Standing Still to support the global COVID pandemic -

the aim was to support the national government in the delivery of healthcare services and

vaccinations to curtail the extraordinary damage caused by the Corona virus.

However, during the current year, Akani also felt the need to advocate issues related to

Mental Health. This after Akani discovered in 2019 that he suffered from anxiety and panic

attacks.

Based on his own history, in the current year Bruno Akani and his team decided to embark

on a long-term project to help employees, school and university students on how to accept

and learn to live with mental illness, seeking the necessary support from local government.

Akani also has in mind the construction of a Government Rehabilitation Centre for people

who suffer from Mental Illness and drug addiction.

Akani encourages people, especially young people to not spend their lives chasing a dream,

but to chase their calling. “Dreams”, they come to us, most of the times when we’re asleep

and they are one way to point us in the right direction to what we should be truly chasing

after, our “Calling”.

Akani is preparing his first album that will be released by 2024.
